Bereavement Services

Hospice families are offered the opportunity to process their grief  through support services provided by the agency.  Following a conversation  with one of our grief counselors the level of support that best meets  the indivdual(s) needs will be recommended.

Bereavement services include mailings,  literature library, telecare, individual counseling,  family counseling, various support groups,  memorials,  and community referrals.  The staff are available to the bereaved family members  for at least 13 months following the death of their loved one.

Support Groups and Counseling

A variety of support groups specifically designed to meet the needs of adults, teens and children—meet regularly at our Hospice offices and at various locations throughout Dutchess and Ulster counties.

They are designed to help those who are grieving understand the process and offer a safe place where children, teens, and their families receive support while working through this very personal and life-changing experience.

This service is  free of cost to Hospice families and, for a small fee, support groups are open to the community  as well.

Education

The staff provides customized workshops and presentations on coping with grief and loss. Some of these are held at our Hospice offices and at other locations throughout Dutchess and Ulster counties.

Literature

Articles focusing on the grieving process and coping with loss are mailed regularly to family members and friends of Hospice patients through  the first year of their grief.

Hospice also maintains a library of books, periodicals, journals and videos, which focus on different aspects of grief and loss. These and other resource materials are available to anyone in the community.

Memorial Services

Non-denominational memorial services are held two times a  year for families and friends of Hospice patients, members of the community, and/or the staffs of hospitals, nursing homes, or other health care organizations.

There services are offered in both Dutchess and Ulster County.
